2014
2014 continues with two more projects: The first one MY BROTHERS AND MY SISTERS IN NORTH KOREA (working title) is directed by Sung-Hyung Cho and will be in theatre in 2015. The
other one is THE CONGO TRIBUNAL (working title) directed by Milo Rau (director of THE MOSCOW TRIALS) which will also be shown at the cinema. The projects couldn’t be more
different. We’ll be shooting in North Korea as well as in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Stay tuned for more information on the projects, it’s going to be unique, exciting and – most of
all – international.
The first season of MAKE LOVE was aired successfully on TV. Positive reviews by critics, high viewing figures and page 1 in the best-selling German newspaper (BILD) – what a great result! Therefore, we’ve been working on a second season in 2014.

At the beginning of 2014 I supported Johannes Praus shooting the new film EAVESDROPPING l ABHÖR (working title) which deals the problems copyright laws face in the age
of digital communication. It will be shown on German national television (ZDF).
Lately Jan Tenhaven and I completed the film PRETTY UGLY l SCHÖN KANN JEDER. You’ll love the scenery: a collection of ancient sculptures, a capella music and a lot of fun. Watch the film on ARTE in August!
The project LOVE IN THE DAYS OF THE WALLS l LIEBE IN ZEITEN DER MAUERN (working title) directed by Sung-Hyung Cho has been completed and will be cut soon. Every day we are touched by the stories of the protagonists we filmed. The film will be very moving, yet very beautiful.
B. l OWN DRUM has been completed, now it’s time for post production. We should be finished by the end of 2014. Once we can show you more I’ll let you know.
Last but not least: It took a lot of work but some new showreels are online. Thanks to Philipp Haeberlin for his patience, his time and the cutting.

My new project with director Jan Tenhaven covers a ‘beautiful topic’. PRETTY UGLY l SCHÖN KANN JEDER is trying to answer the question of what is beautiful by following the protagonist Del on this mission: David versus Goliath. The German national television channel (ZDF) calls to shoot the third season of TERRA MAX and everyone answers. Again we’ll be spending a few exciting weeks in an unidentified flying object.
2013 continues with shooting the second trailer for the band ABBY. Philipp Haeberlin and I are very eager to experiment again. Stay tuned!
Next to cinematographer Marcus Winterbauer, I shot the documentary GOLD – YOU CAN DO MORE THAN YOU THINK l GOLD - DU KANNST MEHR ALS DU DENKST in Berlin and London during the Paralympics in August and September 2012. Director was Michael Hammon.
It tells the emotional story of three outstanding athletes that changed their lives from tragedy to victory: Henry Wanyoike, a blind Marathon runner from Kenya, Kirsten Bruhn, paralyzed Swimmer from Germany and Kurt Fearnley, Australian Wheelchair racer.. Their spirit turned GOLD into more than just a movie about exceptional athletes. This documentary reminds you that you can achieve much more than you think and that GOLD is in each and every one of us. It was a valuable experience that deeply influenced me. In theatre in February 2013.
INNER CINEMA l KOPFKINO has been nominated for the Norwegian movie award AMANDA in the category “best documentary”. Fingers crossed!
Only a couple of weeks until we start shooting B. l OWN DRUM! The director Kai and I are very excited and a bit nervous even. The team’s doing a great job building the puppets and the set. One and a half years have passed since Kai first had the idea to make this StopMotion movie. The shooting starts on 5 August and will continue for 44 days. After having been on the road with director Arne Birkenstock and cinematographer Marcus Winterbauer for the film BELTRACCHI – THE ART OF FORGERY l BELTRACCHI - DIE KUNST DER FÄLSCHUNG. I now start shooting the documentary movie LOVE IN THE DAYS OF THE WALLS l LIEBE IN ZEITEN DER MAUERN (working title) directed by Sung-Hyung Cho. In the film, Sung-Hyung Cho tells the stories of men and women who entered into relationships or even marriages with North Koreans that had been sent to Socialist states which ended when their partner had to return to North Korea. A love story in the days of political walls.

Shortly before the end of the year I’m shooting a music video for the band HIDDEN CAMERAS. Director is Kai Stänicke (director of COLD STAR). Three days of shooting, highspeed camera and blood promise thrilling pictures.
2013 kicks off with the shooting of a commercial for the new album of the band ABBY. Directed by Philipp Haeberlin, the teaser contains lots of glass and experimental effects.

Finally trailers and photos can be discovered on the homepage of the documentary SOUND OF HEIMAT. The film is a musical road movie that pictures traditional German music from a modern perspective and demonstrates how dedicated people are when it comes to music. Have a look at the website, be thrilled, the film will be shown in the cinema in September.

Many sleep-deprived days later, the SEHSÜCHTE FESTIVAL has ended successfully. It was great. The audience loved the trailer we made which was aired before every movie.
Furthermore, we were able to complete shooting the short film with Sabine Bernardi despite the terrible weather conditions. I’m keen to see the first rough cut.
Now I’m preparing the shooting of this year’s trailer for the film festival in Cottbus. On two days in the studio and one day outside using a camera crane, I shoot on 35mm Kodak as well as moviecam.
Following the Russian winter fun in Latvia, I’m going to shoot the trailer for this year’s SEHSÜCHTE FILM FESTIVAL using highspeed and a brand new camera by P+S X35. Very exciting!
On 22 January, a new tivi-history-series TERRA MAX will be aired on ZDF. I did the second camera. Tune in!
At the beginning of January, I’m off to Latvia in order to continue the winter shooting of IN THE FOG directed by Sergei Loznitsa.
I’m very happy to hear that our film IN THE FOG by Sergei Loznitsa just ran successfully in Cannes and won the FIPRESCI price 2012.

The year goes by quickly: At the moment I’m preparing the shooting of this year’s trailer for the film festival in Cottbus as well as a short film directed by Sabine Bernardi which will be take place in May.
Today I heard the wonderful news: The German Film- and Media-Evaluation has labeled COLD STAR as ‘particularly valuable’ and selected it as ‘short film of the month’.

The technical arrangements for the Norwegian art-documentary INNER CINEMA l KOPFKINO start Mid-February. The film is directed by the Norwegian artist Lene Berg. The shooting commences on 22 February.
